A Thursday of School Spirit and High-Stakes Fun!
As our time with the Junior Ambassadors from Asahikawa begins to wind down, Thursday was all about experiencing the unique educational environment of Bloomington-Normal and blowing off some steam with a little friendly competition.
The Lab School Experience
The day kicked off with an immersive look at our local "Lab Schools." The ambassadors toured both Thomas Metcalf School and University High School. These schools provide a unique look at American education, and the students were fascinated by the interactive classrooms and the spirited atmosphere.
For many of our visitors, seeing how American students move between classes, engage in group projects, and show off their school pride was a major highlight. It was a wonderful morning of cultural exchange as they met with local students and shared stories about their own school days in Japan.
A Classic American Sports Bar Lunch
After a morning of walking the halls, it was time for a high-energy lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. This was a quintessential American "sports bar" experience! The ambassadors enjoyed a variety of wing flavors and loved the atmosphere—complete with wall-to-wall sports and a lively midday crowd. It’s safe to say they found some new favorite sauces today!
Mission Accomplished: Laser Paintball Tag
The afternoon took an intense (and incredibly fun) turn at Urban Warfare. The ambassadors suited up for Laser Paintball Tag, navigating the tactical arena and working in teams to complete missions. It was the perfect way to spend their final full afternoon—lots of movement, plenty of laughs, and a healthy dose of competitive spirit. Seeing the students coordinate strategies and celebrate "victories" together was a fantastic sight.
Looking Toward Tomorrow
Tomorrow is our final day together. While we are sad to see this journey end, we are so grateful for the memories made and the friendships formed. Stay tuned for our final update as we prepare for a heartfelt "Sayonara."
