Art, Animals, and Academia: A Tuesday Full of Inspiration!

The Junior Ambassadors from Asahikawa continued their whirlwind tour of Bloomington-Normal today with a perfect blend of creativity, nature, and a look at the future! From quiet gallery halls to the bustling campus of a major university, it was a day of constant discovery.

Morning Masterpieces

The day began at the McLean County Arts Center, where the students traded their tourist hats for artist caps. They participated in specialized art lessons, tapping into their creative sides while surrounded by the center's inspiring regional exhibitions. It was a wonderful way to see how art transcends language barriers, allowing the ambassadors to express themselves through color and design.

An Up-Close Animal Encounter

Next, it was off to Miller Park Zoo for a very special interactive lesson. This wasn't just a walk past the exhibits—the students got a "behind-the-scenes" educational experience where they met some of the zoo's residents up close! The ambassadors had the chance to learn about and see a snake, an owl, and even a curious armadillo. These face-to-face moments with wildlife are always a huge hit and provide a unique look at North American conservation.

A Taste of the "East Coast" in the Midwest

For lunch, the group enjoyed a fresh and fast meal from Jersey Mike’s. It was another fun opportunity to try a popular American staple while fueling up for a big afternoon of walking and exploring.

Touring the Home of the Redbirds

The afternoon was dedicated to higher education with a comprehensive tour of Illinois State University. As they walked through the beautiful, tree-lined Quad, the ambassadors learned about the history of Illinois’ first public university. They explored academic buildings, saw the student hubs, and got a true feel for what it’s like to be a "Redbird." For these high school students, seeing a large American university campus was an eye-opening experience that sparked lots of questions about college life in the U.S.

What’s Next?

After a day of art and education, the students are heading back for a relaxing evening. We have more exciting stops planned as their visit enters its final stretch!
