The Bloomington Normal Sister Cities Committee is pleased to announce the selection of Anna Sekiguchi as the 2013 - 2014 Bloomington/Normal Sister Cities High School Exchange students to Asahikawa, Japan.

Anna's parents are Takebami and Kathy Sekiguchi.

Anna attends Normal West High School.

Before they leave for Asahikawa, Japan in August the students will undergo intense training in the Japanese language, customs and society, provided by committee members Akiko Wilson and Sanae Ferrier. They also learn more about their home community of Bloomington/Normal for presentations to our Japanese sister city.

Since 1962, Asahikawa, Japan and Bloomington/Normal have had a Sister Cities relationship. In 2012 we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary. Our sister city relationship is the one of the longest in the US.

Senior High School Exchange Programs are among the premier programs sponsored by the Bloomington/Normal Sister Cities Committee. Since 1968 sixty Bloomington/Normal high school students have studied for about one year in Asahikawa as goodwill ambassadors, living with host families and attending school. This scholarship award includes transportation to and from Japan, living costs, high school tuition and fees, and a monthly stipend.
